Event Chair Nancy McMillan and a handful of BRIGHT Run volunteers had a blast last month at the Choir! Choir! Choir! event in St. Catharines.

We laughed and sang and laughed and sang some more. We went because, as we told you last month, Choir! Choir! Choir! accepted the BRIGHT Run as one of the 25 charities to benefit from its annual December fundraising drive.

For those of you who have never been to a C!C!C! event, get out to one. Particularly if you ever wanted to be a back-up singer!

Here’s how it works:
We were handed a song sheet on the way in. Our song for the night was Journey’s Don’t Stop Believing. The song sheet has no musical notes, just words, oohs and aahs and some ba ba bums. The page is divided into three sections: high, middle and low.

Nobu Adilman and Daveed Goldman, the brains and music behind C!C!C!, spent the next hour or so teaching the audience sections their parts – high, middle and low. Frankly, the first few tries were…. somewhat feeble at best. But by the time the practice was done, we sounded pretty darned good.

Once Nobu and Daveed were satisfied the crowd knew what it was doing – at least, mostly – we did one full “official version,” which Nobu streamed live on Facebook.

It’s difficult to express how it feels to sing with such a large group of people. It was fun for sure. Emotional as well. And, like the BRIGHT Run, there was an intense feeling of community.

We won’t know for a while the size of the BRIGHT Run’s portion of the funds raised in December. But we’ll let you know as soon as we find out.

Meanwhile, check out Choir! Choir! Choir!’s webpage at www.choirchoirchoir.com. Find out when they have an event near you. Then go and sing your guts out!
