Event chair Nancy McMillan and Dr. Mark Levine dropped in on about 100 young hockey players last month at the Fortino Nurse Hockey Camp, organized by Olympians and BRIGHT supporters Laura Fortino and Sarah Nurse.
Laura, captain of BRIGHT team The OLYMPIANS, and team member Sarah held two camps last month for the area’s young players.
Nancy and Mark spoke with the kids and their parents, and were thrilled to meet Olympic hockey medallist Jocelyne Larocque, Hockey Hall of Famer and Olympic medallist Geraldine Heaney and Hamilton Bulldogs assistant captain Isaac Nurse.
The OLYMPIANS raised more than $1,000 in two camp sessions through donations and by selling autographed hockey cards and autographed national team photos.
Way to go, Laura and Sarah!
Captain Diana Beckley and her team Beckley’s Family & Friends brought Part 2 of their scrumptious BRIGHT Run bake sale to the Juravinski Hospital Lobby last month and it was delish!
Over the two dates, the team raised $1,760 selling delectable treats. Good work!
Next up is the team’s Aug. 24 garage sale, starting at 8 a.m. at 43 Lisgar Court.

Congratulations to some junior members of Joanne Stacey’s BRIGHT team, the Graduates, on last month’s craft sale, which raised more than $200.
Emme and Rachel were busy leading up to the sale, making hair scrunchies, dish cloths and a range of other items. Excellent work, young ladies!
